Rustic Ironing Board

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  Hope you are wearing your green today.

Over Spring Break I had the chance to work on one of my projects.  My mom gave me an old ironing board that she has had since we were little.  I was on Pinterest and happen to see a craft done with one and thought it was perfect for my ironing board.

I created a Welcome sign for my front door.

I started out by sanding the board and then applied Rustoleum Kona Stain to the board.

Once that dried I printed out the lettering - one letter per page and I chalked the back of the letters and transferred them to the ironing board.

I then took a paint brush and Heirloom White paint and painted my letters onto the board.

The next day once the letters dried I sanded the ironing board and applied Rustoleum Weathered Grey Stain to antique the lettering.

Then I applied Polyurethane to seal the board.

I added a bow out of burlap and put it on my front porch!

I heart Wood Pallets

I am currently in a phase of using old pieces and making them into usable and functional pieces for my home.  We recently bought a new house this past summer and when you have a brand new house and did not get to pick anything out for it, I immediately wanted to put my taste on everything in the house to make it mine.

Since we are in a new neighborhood I was lucky enough to obtain about 20 wood pallets that were left over from the construction crews.  I've always seen some cool stuff on pinterest that people make from pallets and my ideas ran wild.

One issue we had at our house is that we can not all sit at the kitchen table together and we needed to have a larger table and more seating, but we do not have the money to purchase a new table.  I told my husband we should make one out of pallets.  I love the farmhouse look and it would be perfect.  And that is what we did!

First we took two pallets that had some good bones and not rotted and then we had to pull off boards and basically puzzle a new top together for two pallets.

Then we sanded the pallets down and I picked out stain colors and paint.

I stained both tops with Rustoleum Kona and then Rustoleum Weathered Gray.  Then I had polyurethane to the tops to seal them.

For the base and the legs I painted them Rustoleum Heirloom White

The challenge was putting the 8 ft table together and getting it into the house.  We accomplished it and love how it turned out!

We still have to make a bench for one side of the table - which our kids will sit at.  We will do the same process but use half of the pallet and then paint it all heirloom white.

I am working on finding 4 different wooden chairs and will eventually paint them a monochromatic of Turquoise.  Kind of like below

green + mint chairs

Last I'm going to make a burlap runner for the table (more pictures to come).

Another project I've done is make a sign out of pallets.  I went to a local store Junque in the Trunk and they were having a sidewalk sale where I picked up some rusty letters for $5.00.  I attached the letters to a pallet sign and now it hangs near my table in the eating area.

I have many other things on my list such as these and can't wait to find time to work on it.

made of a board pulled from a pallet, spray painted black, then painted with a brush in Valspar Antique White Eggshell, two coats. While the sign was drying I printed the letters in Times New Roman (just the outlines to save ink) and cut them out, traced on to the board, and then painted with black acrylic paint the letters. After that dried, I simply took a power sander to the sign.

I heart Valentine's Day

I just love Valentine's Day.  It is just a fun day to celebrate the ones you love and to be super girly.  My husband and I usually don't do much for Valentine's Day - maybe dinner, but we hate going out on Valentine's Day because of the crowds.  This year our church is offering Parent's Night Out on Friday, so we will be doing something for fun this Friday.

The kids are really into Valentine's Day too through their schools.

Caden and Codi have been making fun crafts all week.  Caden has already picked out his red shirt for tomorrow and Codi has her pink outfit picked out and her finger nails painted.  If you haven't noticed from all of Codi's pictures - she is obsessed with the color pink.  One her staple items in her wardrobe is her pink cowboy boots.  We are on pair #2 of them!

Connor gets to hand out Valentine's to his class friends and they were told to bring in a fun and creative Valentine's Box for class to collect all of their Valentine's.  Of course we checked Pinterest out and Connor decided on what he would like to create.  Connor loves loom bracelets so we made a cute Valentine and him and I made 25 loom bracelets for his class and some of his close buddies.  For his Valentine's Box he wanted a basketball hoop box (I'm guessing since he just finished up basketball season he was still in the basketball mood).  So after school we crafted him a box.  He help me wrap and draw the lines on the box and then I helped out with the rest of the box because it took some creative ways to get it together.  Finding a cheap basketball net and hoop is not easy in a small town so YouTube came to our rescue on how to make a net and then we turned it into a basketball net.  For a teacher gift we went with something cute and simple.  What teacher doesn't like hand soap!?  Connor picked out French Lavender and will add the fun heart tag to it tonight.

Teacher Valentine's Day Gifts. I was soapin you'd be mine!

Would love to see what others are doing for Valentine's Day or any cute ideas they did for their kids for Valentine's treats.  Comment below!!!  Have a happy Valentine's day Weekend.

We might be back in business!

I have been really wanting to get back to blogging, but haven't had the time, energy, motivation and possibly wanting to change up my blog with some fresh ideas and new things going on in my mind.  I have so much to tell you about!  Our move, country life, crafts, food - the list could go on.  So I thought I start off easy and tag along with some fellow bloggers with

What we're eating this week:
We have been really working on simplifying our dinner menu and make it easier for shopping and less thinking involved.  We are about to really get busy in the evenings with things with the kids and Nick's work schedule so why not have a reoccurring menu with a few new things a week.
This week we have hamburgers and french fries, meat loaf, spaghetti, shrimp linguini, and tilapia in store for our evenings.  Hamburgers and spaghetti tend to be some of our favorites.

What I'm reading:
One of my goals is to get back to reading more.  It is one of my favorite things to do but I think having kids and my eyesight have really put a damper on reading.  I don't have time to go to the bookstore and spend money on books, so I used to just borrow from my sister.  For Christmas at work I won a Kindle Fire, so now I have been using my library a bunch and checking out great finds.

I just finished I've Got your Number and Where'd you go Bernadette.  I've never read a Sophie Kinsella book before and I just loved it.  Quick but fun read.  I will definitely be reading more of her books.  Where'd you go Bernadette was not my favorite book because it was kind of slow and I did not connect with the characters, but some of my friends really like the book, so I think it just depends on your personality for this one.  I'm currently reading The Best Yes and A Week in Winter, so I will post reviews later for you!

What I'm reminiscing about:
Summer!  We can not wait till warm weather hits.  Our good friends just bought a house with a pool and our neighborhood is currently putting in our splash pad and park.  Plus we have passes to Seaworld and some other fun little trips planned this summer that include water and sun.

What I'm looking forward to:
Two things!  We just bought a canoe so I think with all this beautiful weather we've been having that we will actually get to take it out this weekend.  Also baseball is happening soon.  Caden is playing T-Ball for the first time this year and and Connor is playing coach's pitch.  We will be super busy in the evenings with practice and games, but it is a good busy.

What I'm loving:
I just started using Apple Cider Vinegar in my nightly facial routine and though it is stinky it has done wonders for my face.  This product is just a must in your pantry - check it out.  I'm loving Kate Spade's multi earrings so much that since they are sold out - I made my own.  They seriously go with anything and had a touch of sparkle.  Also I just can't get enough of Taylor Swift's Shake It off Video and song.  It makes me happy and what to dance - oh and miss Codi is loving it too.  She can definitely shake it.

What we've been up to:
It is competition month for my art classes so I've been staying late at work and working on hard on getting all of my student's work matted and framed.  At home I've been trying to get the kids out to play more in the yard while I work on our new table I'm building and painting for the kitchen. (pics to come).  Also spending some girly time with this sweet princess.

What I'm dreading:
I dread working out each day, but I know I need to do it and I love the feeling after I'm done.  Maybe if I got some cute workout clothes - it would be better - but probably not.

What I'm working on:
I'm currently really into building and painting lately.  I have a few projects in the works.
1.  bought a bench I want to paint and clean up.  2.  I just finished a sign for my kitchen and 3.  working on my pallet farm house table.

What I'm excited about:
Ready for some much needed R&R so definitely for Spring Break to happen.  Hopefully going to get to spend some time with my sister and some good friends camping.  We shall see what the week has in store for us!

What I'm watching:
Currently me and the hubby are watching Castle on Monday nights.  We still love the show.  I also just wrapped up Parenthood - so sad, but such a great ending.  I also watch Grey's Anatomy.  I'm ready for the show to be over with now, its been a long series.  Though still good, just ready to get into something new.  I watch Scandal but through netflix, so I'm always a season behind.  Also I love love Melissa and Joey and so sad that their show was cancelled after this season.  But can not wait to by the series on dvd.

What I'm listening to:
My faves right now are Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and this cool IHeartRadio station The 1975.  It really has some good music.

What am I annoyed by:
This Texas weather - its cold than its hot.  Please make up your mind, because my allergies can not stand it anymore.

What am I hoping for:
I am hoping for a lot right now.  Praying for things that only God can read from my heart.

What am I wearing today:
It is Valentine's week so I'm sporting pink today with a fun pink skirt and a nude shirt with nude flats.  I'm also sporting a braid today because I didn't feel like doing my hair.  Usually you will find me wearing my brown booties with most outfits.  Love them.

What else is new:
Our biggest goals right now are still adjusting to our new move, fixing up our house, getting involved in the community, we are joining our new church this Sunday, and meeting new people.  We have some great neighbors and we love our neighborhood and community.  Our jobs are awesome and challenging in a new and good way.
What's up with you?

Happy Wednesday!!!
